8 Ways to Hack Your Office Lease for Cash
I’ve read a lot here about how to hack a funding term sheet, or how to navigate the confusing terms and conditions in the legal contracts startup founders must sign. But what about rent? It’s probably one of your biggest operating costs, and in the current spirit of cost-cutting, there are several ways to squeeze cash out of your commercial real estate agreement, too. I started Rofo to help entrepreneurs do this, but I’ve shared my top “lease agreement hacks” here. They will...
AMD Bridges the Gap Between the PC and TV
As we consume more media online, and the web becomes more central to our lives, it’s only natural to want to bring that content into our living rooms. For some people, this trifecta of the couch, web surfing and movie-watching on a big screen is their version of heaven. If they have an AMD-powered comput...
Has Twitter Saved Blogging? Not a Chance
Richard Bailey has an interesting thesis: Twitter has saved blogging. It’s based on the idea that the blogosphere was getting dull because people were churning out blog posts of mediocre quality. Local fluctuations are less interesting than the range. I applied several curve fits to Skype’s freemium ratio but nothing reliable came of it. I don’t imagine it is predictive of anything, merely descriptive. The wobbliness[1] of Skype’s freemium ratio is, obviously, a function of variations in the supporting data. Eyeballing it, free activity leads fee by a few months. This makes sense if free experiences are preparatory behavior to greater commitment. At a larger cha...
