Windows Mobile gets 3G VoIP - WiFi not Required!

Last year Jajah launched the Windows Mobile 6 native SIP client for the the EM-ONE. Frederik Hermann, Director Global Marketing for Jajah emailed me to say, “Today we launched phase 2 of this project, EMOBILE users can now get their own local DID (Direct Inward Dialing number) and can be called at this number from any regular phone, which turns their device into a fully functioning mobile phone, without a cellular connection.” Importantly, it features HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access), also known as 3G. So in other words, the SIP-based EM-ONE becomes a fully-functional inbound & outbound calling device that only needs a 3G data connection. 100% VoIP for inbound & outbound calling.
“Through our collaboration with EMOBILE, we were the first in the industry to deliver pure voice over mobile broadband,” said JAJAH CEO, Trevor Healy.
“With added call functionality and a personal direct number, we are not only enabling the consumers desire for a truly connected life on the go, but taking another leap forward in the future of mobile communication.”

“The whole world is talking about the move towards a pure IP-network for mobile. While they talk, JAJAH and EMOBILE have made this a reality,” said EMOBILE Chief Executive, Kengo Masuda. “To build a revolutionary device in the most advanced mobile market is a real achievement, and we are very proud of what EMOBILE and JAJAH have been able to accomplish together.”
This is a big step and another proof point for the abilities of our development team, our continued innovation, our vision and our growing Managed Services IP telephony platform serving Yahoo!, Gizmo5 and others.
The EM-ONE started with Windows Mobile 5.0, but has since been upgraded to Windows Mobile 6. It features HSDPA (High-Speed Downlink Packet Access) (aka 3G) with wireless speeds up to 3.6 Mbps. The EM-ONE also has 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 1.2, and a digital broadcast television receiver.
The JAJAH exclusive service utilizes a pure IP network and will be available to everyone in Japan starting August 1, 2008.
Fantastic! So when is the EMOBILE coming to the U.S. so I can make 100% IP calls over HDSPA/3G? It isn’t?
Well maybe I’ll just stick with Jajah on the iPhone. Course Steve Jobs won’t let VoIP run over your cellular (3G) iPhone connection.
Damn it, there’s always a catch!
Give me 100% VoIP on the iPhone (jailbreaking doesn’t count) or give me death!
