Structure 08 Recap: Yo Founders! There’s Gold in Them Clouds!
GigaOM???s Structure 08 event offered a terrific opportunity to survey the changing landscape of computing infrastructure. But as with all technology shifts, innovation won???t just belong to the big established players like VMWare, Amazon, Google, Sun Microsystems, Salesforce.com and NetSuite. With that in mind, Found|READ asked a panel of conference participants to share their thoughts via email on some of the more compelling business opportunities for startups in the cloud computing space. Cleaning and Memories
Ever notice that when you try to clean up a room in your home, you sometimes stumble upon memories of the past? Depending upon the memory represented, the cleaning stops and you can be brought back into the past. While there are usually things which eventually do get thrown out, the rooms I try to clean almost always end up being left as a job for yet another day. ...
IP Convergence TV Update
I haven’t blogged much about the IP Convergence TV portal lately, but it’s time. Our latest update has just gone live, and as usual, there’s lots of new and interesting content. As portal Editor, my role is to keep the content honest and of a high caliber. I’d like to think I’m doing my part as we continue to get great feedback about the portal and traffic continues to be healthy. No More AT&T Callvantage?
AT&T, long before it merged with SBC had made a half-hearted attempt at getting into consumer VoIP by selling a service called, CallVantage. It was surprisingly good, especially its call quality. Unfortunately, the company never quite made the commitment to it. And when SBC merger happened, well it fell victim of save-your-mentality that comes with it. Today, there is word that AT&T has stopped pushing the service through its affiliate channels - a sure sign that the company is backing ...
Dell Video Chat … Expanding Video Communications Awareness
Last week Dell launched its new Studio line of laptops. According to Mobile Review (17") and PC Mag (15") — both of which gave them an "Editor’s Choice" designation, this line is a cross of the Inspiron consumer line’s pricing and the XPS laptops’ reputation for having "desktop" horsepower. Apparently the ability to make a fashion statement in selection of the color scheme is also a key feature. And it includes a 2 megapixel built-in webcam. ...
The iPhone is Going to Bomb
I could be wrong but…it’s hard not to get the distinct feeling the iPhone is going to be a dud in Canada. With Rogers’ decision to take a conservative approach to pricing and its failure to offer an unlimited data plan, the hype surrounding the iPhone’s much-anticipated launch north of the border is quickly evaporating. It’s like looking forward to a great party, only to realize the host has bought a few buckets of KFC and a case of Labatt Blue, and wants to play t...
A look back at the Led Zeppelin Reunion Concert that ROCKED the WORLD!
Back on December 10, 2007 I was at the O2 Arena in London and I had an opportunity to share in a magical moment in the history of Rock and Roll…the reunion of Led Zeppelin. For myself and for many of the friends I grew up with, Led Zeppelin is on the soundtrack of our childhoods and of our lives. The night of December 10, 2007 was an amazing night for music. And an experience I hope to never to forget. What started out as surreal when I was able to walk around backstage before the concert...
