Ribbit vs. Lypp
VS I have had a few people ask me to describe the differences between Ribbit and the Lypp API. ——– UPDATE: Ike Elliot has some good points about the un-evolution of VoIP The one thing I might say to Ike is, "you're right, in more ways than one". VoIP has not really come all that far and sometime it complicates life more than it needs to. I think I can help you in one way though Ike, check back in a week and you will see what I mean. R...
“Very Good!”, so said the white man
In today’s Washington Post, there is a story that ostensibly describes Indians’ obsession with fair skin. But a telling quote is from Riya Ray, 23, a dark-skinned Indian model: “My pictures are routinely Photoshopped to make me look a bit… ...
Audio Conferencing API
Conference Calling and Audio Conferencing APIs are not exactly abundant, likely because conference calling has long been a boring and mundane task that few people enjoy. That smell of martial disdain was not exactly motivating developers to come up with a better solution. Gaboogie aims to up the happy factor considerably with the upcoming launch of Lypp: Next Generation Conference Calling and version 2.0 of the Lypp API. The conferencing features for Lypp are vast and the API is dead simple to ...
ODF Alliance - Microsoft OOXML 1-0
The ODF alliance, the organization proposing an open standard document format, hit back brilliantly at some “research” performed by the Burton Group (aka the Microsoft Propaganda Department) , in which it claimed OOXML was superior. Not surprisingly this “research” by the Burton group was provided free of charge - of course because it had been entirely funded by Microsoft in advance and is to be ...
New news, no news, and tons of old news
Here’s a little observation. No, let’s make it a bonus double. Wife calls, she’s away with the kids at the in-laws. She was unaware of the Heathrow plane crash, because she had only looked at the BBC News website on Thursday morning, and again this morning. So she’d missed the window during which it was a headline. Second one. I get the Edinburgh Evening News by RSS into my feed reader. But I hardly ever read it, because there’s about 70 articles a day, and man...
Cheap Mobile Calls in Canada
I had a great conversation today from a new Lypp user who was blown away by the Lypp mobile calling service that is current being offered at Lypp.com. The one thing that this gentleman kept reiterating was that mobile calling in Canada is so costly and how Lypp service all of North America for one low price. It was so great to have some positive feedback on the service and I hope they will be even happier when they see the new features we are unleashing in February. Next month we will be launc...
EComm podcast
If you’ve ever wondered what I sound like, or want to hear me pontificate at length on the future of telecoms, you can go listen to me being interviewed by Lee Dryburgh over here, along with a transcript of the highlights. It’s a prelude to my keynote at the upcoming EComm conference in San Francisco, 12-14 March 2008, for which Lee is the organiser. There’s an absolutely extraordinary who’s who of speakers lined up, so the only thing missing now is you. Posted by Martin...
Home iPhone
A skeptical Alec writes about an effort to build a home phone that John Sculley of OpenPeak positioned it as the iPhone for the home phoneline. He thinks such high-end phones have not fared well historically. Past experience suggests to… ...
Robert (Scoble) Gandhi?
Yesterday Robert Scoble was in the news more than usual. He used a toll provided by Plaxo to scrape Facebook to retrieve his friends data. Since Facebook considers this to be against their Terms of Service, they blocked his account,… ...
Get Well, Om
Today I came to know that last week Om had a heart attack. But he is recovering fast. I hope he is back at his self soon. He has been a good friend and an early promoter of my writings…. ...
